Last night at our community group, in our discussion was about money our attention was turned by God’s Word to seeking the will of God in how we use our money. I can honestly say it was one of my favorite times together because our collective attention was not on “the topic” but on Our Savior. We want to hear and follow Jesus more than anything!
Oftentimes followers of Jesus get so focused on trying to live Christianly that they don’t stop to do the simple and key task of seeking the counsel of God. We just act. By doing this we truncate the work of God in our lives. Our best spiritual pursuits can become so self-focused that our good work ends up not being good after all.
Whatever decision do you have before you today?
Take this counsel… “Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, ‘First seek the counsel of the Lord.’” (1 Kings 22:5)
Stop now and do it. Don’t make another decision apart from seeking the counsel of the Lord through his Word and in prayer.
